Happy November! Long-Term Care Insurance (LTCI) Awareness Month kicks off today, a time when the industry comes together to share the message that getting long-term care insurance can cover the cost of care when you need it most. While Life Happens does not oversee or coordinate this campaign, we think it’s important to support our members who work with this product.

 

Here are three ways you can use our LTCI resources this month (and beyond!):

 

1.     Update your social media profiles’ cover photos to let your audience know that November is Long-Term Care Insurance Awareness Month.

With much of our lives spent online, Aubrey Fitzloff, an Insurance Broker with LifeTime Insurance Agency, has maximized her digital impact with Life Happens Pro content for more than three years.

 

“Life Happens Pro has made it easy to build credibility in the social media world because the reality is that people are going to check you out online, especially if they haven’t met you in person.”

 

One of the ways Aubrey has found works well is through positive word of mouth she gains by being the ‘subject matter expert’ among her social groups.

 

“I have really looked at social media as a way of providing a presence of credibility more than an active marketing strategy. Most of our new clients come from referrals, but I am seeing more and more business owners who I work with tagging me in their Facebook networking groups when people they know are asking questions about life insurance.”

 

“What I want is for someone asking for help to see how active my page is and that it has content that educates them. When they call me, I want them to know they are talking to someone knowledgeable in the field.”

 

But one of the selling points for Aubrey was the ability to put her phone number in front of people on all of her social media posts.

 

“One of the biggest decisions for me upgrading [on Life Happens Pro] was the ability to brand the social media and marketing pieces to get my contact information on them. We make sure our phone number and email address are on just about everything.”

 

As a life insurance professional, she has maximized her time and focus by trusting us with her content calendar and copywriting.

 

“We have been using the social media calendar as a way to put content onto our pages without having to [post to each channel individually]. Those of us who are out working the life insurance markets, the last thing we need to do is to try to learn to copywrite – that’s not our job.”

 

“I know you guys have drafted templates of emails that we can customize to send to our clients and prospective clients. I know that y’all have marketing pieces that I can download and send to our printer – so our intention is to start implementing even more content over the next six months into what is already working well for us.”

 

Aubrey has found one of the best ways to bridge emails, flyers and brochures to clients in a meaningful way has been to utilize Real Life Stories.

“The reality is that the concepts of insurance products are not innately attractive, but when you can show someone how that has made a difference in somebody else’s life, that is where they start thinking, ‘We really need to think about this to protect our family.’”

 

From Aubrey’s own life experiences, she mentioned that even with the grit and determination to put herself through college, a life insurance policy after the passing of her mother would have dramatically helped make those years easier.

 

She also observed that the stories of people who didn’t have life insurance to support their families are just as powerful as the content where people did have coverage.

 

“Equally as strong are the stories of people who didn’t have life insurance and suffered from a loss. I think that content helps light the fire to get people thinking about life insurance and supporting their families in a worst-case scenario. Rather than telling my own story when sitting down with a client, having access to other families’ stories where things happened – it just helps add another piece to helping people.”

 

“The reality is we want to take care of the people we love, and the products that I work with are conceptually complex. But if you can see how it would help your family… that will usually help move that conversation.

 

 

As a Life Happens Pro advocate, Aubrey encouraged new members to follow the social media calendar in order to learn best practices for social media marketing.

 

“You guys have already created a road map to help somebody that doesn’t know how to start using their digital assets. Go download the social media calendar and literally just copy and paste the content and captions. I think it is a good idea to put your name and phone number on the content too.”

 

Other advice she gave was to track your numbers, start slow so that you can make the most of each type of asset, and ask every client how they got your phone number when they reach out to you.

 

“Life Happens Pro was an affordable way for me to figure out marketing when there really weren’t dollars there for my marketing. I’m happy to support an organization that helps people start marketing since we all can’t afford radio ads or billboards at the start. This is a great way to start without a large risk financially.”

Life Happens hosted a Life Insurance Awareness Month Twitter chat on September 15! The life insurance industry came together to drive valuable discussion about all things life insurance and key data from our recent 2022 Insurance Barometer Study conducted with LIMRA.

We discussed how the industry as a whole can move the needle toward getting more Americans fully insured. This chat educated Americans about how life insurance is a simple and affordable way to protect their loved ones’ financial futures.

Thanks to great participation from 85 unique authors, the hashtag #LIAM22Chats had 591 mentions garnering more than 18 million impressions between August 16 and September 15, 2022. Top authors included LIAM Spokesperson Roselyn Sánchez, New York Life, MassMutual, Erie Insurance, Pacific Life, Principal, Midland National Life Insurance Company, North American Company, Ameritas, Vicki Gunvalson, F&G, ACLI, NAIFA, Securian Financial, Legal & General America, Advocis, Finseca and LIMRA.

First impressions are everything, and in the changing landscape created by the internet and social media, that first impression often doesn’t happen in person.

 

Back in 2005, when Ross Karp, a CLTC with 3P Insurance Services, started his career, he didn’t want to walk the streets of New York City to find clients because he knew that if he was going to grow his business properly, he needed to grow his network.

 

“I didn’t want to be the one calling clients; I wanted the clients to call me because they had a pain point and needed someone to solve it,” said Ross. “I had been in the industry since 2005, I grew my network by attending events and creating a networking organization, but it took me a long time to get my act together on social media.”

 

With almost all his social networking done through LinkedIn, Ross first came across Life Happens content through colleagues’ feeds. After following Life Happens, he decided to sign up for Life Happens Pro.

 

“I started noticing Life Happens popping up on my feed on LinkedIn, and then after learning about Life Happens Pro, I asked my wife [a marketing professional] if this was worth it and we really thought it was worth a shot. Since then, I’ve been sharing graphics and articles daily. A few connections have mentioned to me that they were impressed how I’ve really upped my game on LinkedIn.”

 

Going back to building relationships, Ross continued with how he uses Life Happens content to “plant seeds” in his social network to be top of mind with his network

 

“For me, it’s really about staying in front of my partners, like wealth advisors, because it is really helpful to put these tidbits out there to plant seeds and bring these things top of mind so maybe in the future, they can bring me into the picture with a client. It’s key because most advisors have clients who know about life insurance but haven’t necessarily thought about it, so these posts help that light go off for them.”

 

Ross went on to mention that he has found success in recommending his LinkedIn page to create several touchpoints of communication.

 

“It’s been more about conversations with some of the folks that I work closely with and establishing that relationship by having them follow my page so that they see the activity. It is all about getting in front of people, and when they engage with it—it is really what we are looking for.”

 

Having implemented many different techniques through his 17 years of experience, Ross recommended that new Life Happens Pro users assess their strategy first and then fill in the gaps with content.

 

“I would tell them to look at it and see where it fits into their model and for their target. The way I market is different from other people since I am looking to get in front of wealth advisors and brokers. They view me as an extension of the services that they offer.”

 

Ross closed by stressing the importance of taking care of the client, “First and foremost, it has got to be the right thing for the client and put them in the best possible position. This is why I love being on the broker side.”

Now in its 19th year, Life Happens created and coordinates the Life Insurance Awareness Month (LIAM) campaign each September to remind Americans about the importance of life insurance for their financial security. It’s a month when the industry comes together to share the message that getting life insurance is a simple and affordable way for consumers to protect the ones they love.

 

This year, Life Happens is collaborating with actress, producer, proud Puerto Rican and mother Roselyn Sánchez for LIAM. By partnering with Life Happens as LIAM spokesperson, Roselyn wants to help Americans get the life insurance they need with this year’s theme: Life insurance—an easy decision.

Did you know that life insurance ownership among Hispanic Americans is at 41%, which is well below the U.S. average at 50%, and has declined 13 points in the past 11 years?

 

The Hispanic community also expresses the highest need for life insurance: 51% say they need life insurance, or more of it.

 

These are just two of the findings from the 2022 Insurance Barometer Study by Life Happens and LIMRA that highlight the Hispanic community’s need for life insurance.

 

That’s why, as we look toward the start of Hispanic Heritage Month on September 15, Life Happens is offering a full suite of resources in Spanish and English, in keeping with our ongoing commitment to reach diverse audiences.

 

This was not just a “translate and done” initiative. Instead, it was fueled by our in-depth research, as well as close work with our Diversity Advisory Group to develop specific resources that would speak directly to the Hispanic community. These resources address common myths and misconceptions that may stand in the way of getting coverage. And importantly, these resources are in English and Spanish. 

 

New assets and marketing materials include: 

  • A complete social media calendar in Spanish for Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15. This includes graphics, videos and animations—and their suggested post captions in Spanish.
  • Our popular Life Insurance 101 video (you can embed this on your website here) and brochure now in Spanish.
  • Life Happens’ Life Insurance Needs Calculator now available in Spanish: Calculadora de necesidades de seguro de vida.
  • Real Life Stories videos, flyers and graphics featuring Hispanic people who personally benefited from life, disability or long-term care insurance.
  • A new Myths flyer that highlights three common myths the Hispanic community has about life insurance and corresponding Myth vs. Fact graphics.
